How to remap using the KWP2000

A KWP 2000 or a KWP2000 plus can easily be obtained on the Internet. They are suitable to use with Bosch EDC15 ECU’s. The price will vary from around £30 to £70 and there will probably be an automatically generated link on this page to where you can buy one.
To find out what ecu you have you need to look for a silver box under your bonnet, it may be in a protective box, just follow all the wiring and it will lead to it.
Now you have found the ecu you must see that the KWP2000 will work with it. Next you must find out your ecu code. The code looks similar to this on a sticker with a bar code. Here the top cod is the desired code. Usually you will determine between maps with the last three digits but it may vary on other cars.

Start up the software on your laptop. You will see this screen.

Select your model of car and engine.
Switch on your ignition but make sure you do not start the engine. Wait until the car has calmed down, pumps have stopped priming lights have gone off ECT…
It is important that there is nothing that could cause a drop in power, as this will damage your ECU. It’s recommended that you plug in your laptop, and have a well-charged car. Unplug any amplifiers and remove your radio head unit.
Launch the application:

This example says kick not found, as it was not plugged into my car….

Now you need to press data to get into your ecu. Next press read and save your original Map file.
Press open to load your new remapped file, and then save to write it to the ECU.
This will take a few minutes only. After this follow the instructions on screen, and wait 10 seconds. Make sure the program is closed before you remove any wires.
It’s that easy, your car is remapped; now take it out for a spin and have some fun!

If your kwp2000 says: "kick not found" it may be for obvious reasons such as it is not actually connected. The first time i tried to use mine i had this problem, and found that it was because I hadn't properly installed the driver. If this happens remove the hardware from your pc, and then start again, making sure you insert the CD. Make sure your ecu is compatible with your flash reader.
